02/21/2009 Delta Goose Festival Wild Goose Chase 5k/10k run, 5k walk Gunnison Bend Reservoir Delta Utah Josh Springer (435) 580-9058 deltagoosefestival.info kspringer1@frontiernet.net One of the seasonal signs that winter has ran its course is the annual congregation of Lesser Snow Geese in the area around the Millard County community of Delta, Utah. Each February thousands of these beautiful birds use the farm fields and bodies of water between the Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area and the Delta, Utah area as a resting point on their northern migration. There is no other site in the State of Utah that offers the chance to see so many snow geese in one place. The sight and sound of thousands of snow geese in the air and upon the water in such a concentrated gathering, we believe is one of the most incredible wildlife experiences available. We feel that our festival will provide fun for you and your entire family! Come join us for the "2009 Wild Goose Chase" on February 21, 2009 at Delta, Utah. This will be a 5K / 10K Run & 5K Walk held at the Gunnison Bend reservoir Beach. Registration begins at 9:00 the day of the race of you can visit our website for more information and to obtain a registration form at www.deltagoosefestival.info. $25 pre-registration. $30 registration on day of race.

To ensure the successful planning and execution of this event, a local, professional race management company has been engaged. At the finish area, there will be booths from sponsors and health organizations that promote wellness. The booths will provide information and/or limited health screenings. Live music will help to make the event festive and encourage folks to stay and learn more. Along the race course, signs will be posted sharing facts about men’s health to reinforce the awareness goals. The identification and engagement of a celebrity spokesperson is underway. It is felt that a high-profile advocate of health and fitness will enhance attendance at all events. The Utah Healthy Living Foundation will administer follow-up activities to determine if the participants were impacted, and subsequently made behavioral changes within three months of the race. This follow-up will include a measurement tool 1) incorporated as part of the registration form and 2) emailed to participants as follow-up outreach. The measurement tool will be developed by a professional outcomes analyst. Funds raised will be used to support local men’s health initiatives through the American Heart Association, The Man-to- Man Prostate Cancer support group, UCAN, and similar organizations. In addition to current sponsors, we are looking for a major sponsor to help with the lunch and evening programs, media partnership, and screenings.
