| 04/21/2012 Whale of a 5k Trail Race & Kids' Fun Run Distance: 5k Location : Seacoast Science Center Odiorne Point State Park, Rye State : New Hampshire Contact : Nichole Rutherford Phone : 603-436-8043 Fax : 603-433-2235 Website : www.seacoastsciencecenter.org/events Email : n.rutherford@seacentr.org Additional Info : This all-terrain trail will take you along Ryes rocky shoreline and sandy beaches, through the green forest, and past historic military forts. The cross-country trail run was created by Eastern Mountain Sports' Extreme Team captain, Jennifer Shultis. This race is timed with chip timing by Yankee Timing. The race will be timed in 3 waves allow for crowd control on the course. The first 150 5k participants will receive an official race t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top two winners in each age and gender categories for the 5K. The Kids Fun Run for ages 12 and under will include a 100 yard dash and/or a 1/2 mile run. All Fun Run participants will win a prize! Prizes will also be awarded to the best sea creature or recycled costume. Come prepared to run on varied terrain and for whatever the weather may bring. Competitive and non-competitive runners are welcome. No dogs please. Our Whale of a 5k Trail Race & Kids Fun Run is a community event that gets families outdoors and connected with nature while supporting the Seacoast Science Center's environmental education efforts. Following the race, celebrate Earth Day Every Day with music, a beach clean-up, and vendors who will educate our community on reducing our carbon footprint. This race is part of the Portsmouth Community Road Race Series. To learn more about participating in this series, visit www.pcrrs.org. All proceeds of the event will benefit our playground rebuild project. The race will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 9am at the United Church of Acworth. The registration fee is $20 per person. We will also have a 1 mile family walk. Registration is $20 per family. Strollers are welcome. No dogs please. All participants will be welcome to our refreshment tents featuring goodies sponsored by Elm City Bagels, Walpole Grocery, Cabot Creamery, Hannaford Supermarkets, Mr. G's Liquidation Centers, and Shaw's. T-shirts will be available for sale the day of the event, or pre-register before April 23rd and get a free shirt! There will also be a prize raffle for all registered runners and walkers. Our prizes include 4 $50 gift certificates from Huberts Family Outfitters, 2 Gift Boxes from WS Badger Company, $10 gift certificates from Walpole Creamery, gift boxes from Cabot Cheese, and a gift certificate from BE Supply Greenhouse of Langdon! This will be a fun community event where we can all get outside, enjoy some physical activity, friends, and food. |

This family event will be held on Sunday June 17, 2012, at 9:00 AM. This annual five-mile road race and two-mile Fun Walk benefits the educational programs and exhibits of the Childrens Museum in Easton. In addition to a post-race party, raffles, and awards, the museum is also giving away t-shirts to the first 300 pre-entrants, as well as cash prizes for the top runners! $100, $50, and $25 in cash will be given to the top three male and female runners. Break the course record of 27 minutes and 48 seconds and take home an additional $100! Also special runner services will be provided! Bring the whole family as the museum offers childcare for pre-entrants and activities for the children of competitors and volunteers. The race attracted almost 500 entrants from communities throughout Southeastern Massachusetts last year and is a great event to be part of! The cost is $20 before the event, either online or by mail/drop off or $25 the day of the race. The Fun Walk is $5. Registration begins at 8:00 am. Against the Tide will be held on June 23rd at DCR's Hopkinton State Park in Hopkinton, MA and on August 18th at DCRs Nickerson State Park in Brewster, MA. !
