This is a special day for the city of Kenyon. Besides hosting the 5K run & the parade, there are typically many other activites that are held throughout the day (see list below). Other Activities Starting at 11am: Pony Rides, Petting Zoo (over 40 animals), Wagon Rides, Indoor and Outdoor Booths, Local Food Vendors (10am – 3:30pm), Lunch Available @ the VFW served by VFW Auxiliary, Shriner’s Clown Club to entertain the crowd, 1:30pm Horse Carriage & Cutter Parade (Over 300 Horses of All Breeds), Kenyon Historical Society Tours of Gunderson House (every 30 minutes 10am-3:30pm). Cost of the Full Marathon and Half Marathon will be $55 from Jan. 1, 2011 through June 9, 2011, and $65 Fri. June 10, 2011, the day before the race. The cost of the 8K Fun Skate will be $20, less than last year to encourage even the most novice skater. There will be no race day registration. Again packet pickup will be at Lake Region Christian School in Baxter, with the best spaghetti dinner for the price anywhere. All proceeds from the dinner go to the schools sports booster program. Nancy English was a doctor, women's health advocate, community supporter and mother. With the help of many family and friends, the first annual “Dr. Nancy I English Memorial 5k Run/Walk" was created in November, 2008. It was a great success! We raised over $15,000 that first year. Our second year and third year were even a greater success! The race is meant to be fun, memorialize a wonderful women and generate money for scholarships for women going back to school later in life with a strong sense of community service. To date, the non-profit Foundation behind the NIE5k has given out 17 scholarships. Please join us on Saturday July 30th in Duluth, MN for the fourth annual race and consider a donation to this wonderful cause! Kids race begins at 8:15 and 5k commences at 8:30. Registration 7-8am day of, with race packet pick up and registration at the Edge at 2400 London Road from 3-7pm on Friday, Jul y 29th. |
