High Rocks for Girls; a non-profit leadership program for teenage girls is hosting the 5K walk/run on Saturday, March 15th to raise money for their programs in Greenbrier, Pocahontas, and Nicholas Counties. Participants will be able to choose an issue that they want to support and decorate their event t-shirt with their message. Prizes will be given to top overall and age-group finishers and to the most spirited walker. The causes of the top overall finishers will be written about in an article covering race results.

To that end we have scheduled a six-race series this year and introduced the Calhoun Cup. Our race schedule includes: April 5, 2008, Flower Power Run, Calhoun County Park, 10:30 a.m. May 31, 2008, Hog Knob Hill Climb, Grantsville to Hog Knob Road Course, 9 a.m. June 7, 2008, Wood Festival Run, Road Course in Grantsville, 8:30 a.m. June 14, 2008, Appalachian Classic, Calhoun County Park, 9 a.m. August 16, 2008: Hotter Than Heck Run, Calhoun County Park 10:30 a.m. November 8, 2008: Not Yet Done Run, Calhoun County Park, 10:30 a.m. The 2008 Calhoun Cup Series will consist of six races and will span the entire Calhoun Runners season. There will be four major winners of the Calhoun Cup. Winners will be male and female overall best cumulative score in walking and running. Other winners will also be awarded in age groups, most improved, etc. To win one of the four Calhoun Cup awards a runner or walker will be required to participate in every event. If a runner is unable to participate in an event they will be given a пїЅblankпїЅ score matching the last place finish in their group. The 13.1 mile course will start in downtown Parkersburg and will take you out to the scenic surroundings of the city before looping back into the commerical area. The Half Marathon features divisions for runners, walkers, and wheelchair participants. The Two Mile Race takes place in downtown Parkersburg. Running, walking, and team divisions make up the race.
