The 5K race will wind through the historic waterfront town of Cape Charles on Virginia's Eastern Shore. All proceeds from the race will benefit Special Olympics. Alternative break trips are designed and led by students for students to spend their break impacting a community outside of the JMU 'bubble' in a real and powerful way. From clearing trails amongst the Redwoods in California to serving dinner at a soup kitchen in Atlanta, students foster reciprocal relationships within the community where they are working, and propel personal growth towards becoming a lifelong active citizen. So join us Saturday, April 25th for the first ever "Alternative Break Program's Daring to Make a Difference by Hugging Trees, Feeding People , Educating Children, and Rebuilding Houses after Hurricanes 5K Fun Run/Walk for Endorphins." Pre-registration is $10.00 includes a t-shirt and closes April 19th at 11:00pm. Day of registration cost is $10.00 and does not include a t-shirt. Mrs. Anderson was committed to teaching children in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area. She was also an avid runner. By establishing an event such as this, we not only honor Mrs. Anderson by participating in something she loved to do but also fund specific programs which benefit the children in the Harrisonburg City Public Schools. Mrs. Anderson was tragically killed while running on the morning of January 6, 2009. Online Registration

This walk will take place on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 16, 2009. You can be sponsored per lap or receive individual donations. It costs $15.00 to register, and you will receive an event t-shirt. The money you raise from donations can be used toward your registration fee. The money raised at this event will be used to purchase items for the soldiers and to cover shipping costs!

09/27/2009 Kit Callahan's Miracle Mile and Brain Injury Awareness Fair 10K and 1/4 mi Survivior's Circle of Hope and Fun Run George Mason University, Fairfax Campus VA Karen M. The cost is $25 per individual; $10 survivors/veterans. Kids under the age of 10 run/walk for FREE. Top male & female finishers in the following age categories will each receive unique prizes: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. No duplicate awards. Awards will be based on "clock time" in the 10K Run. All survivors and fun run participants will receive a commemorative item to acknowledge their accomplishments. This event is for the whole family.
