Although never a smoker, Gary Zollinger was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2004. He underwent chemotherapy, radiation and ultimately, a rare double lung transplant at the University of Colorado Hospital on May 19, 2006. Sadly, Gary lost his battle with lung cancer September 9, 2007, not long after the first race. The third Gift of Life and Breath 5K run/walk is being held in honor of Gary’s valiant fight against this terrible disease.
