| 03/27/2010 PALM100--Six Runner 100 Mile Team Relay 100 miles Fort Lauderdale Beach to West Palm Beach and back Florida Bob Becker 954-439-2800 954-206-0841 www.palm100.com bob@ultrasportslc.com Ever run a half marathon? Then you can do this race--with 5 of your running friends! Primarily along State Route A1A, this is a spectacular course with the Atlantic Ocean on one side, the Intracoastal Waterway on the other and the beautiful real estate and landscaping of this very upscale area in between. Unlike “standard” ultra-distance relays, each team decides its own race strategy—the number of legs that team members will run and the length of each leg. Each team member does NOT have to run the same number of miles or segments. Teams may change strategy during the race, and often do, as the heat becomes a factor or someone starts to bonk. The relay format is a lot of fun and the PALM100 is well suited to runners who have completed a half marathon or even a 10K. In effect, each team member runs an average of 16-17 miles during the day, but in segments of a few miles at a time. After racing a segment, the runner gets into the team vehicle to relax and recover while the next runner takes his/her turn, and so on. The team support vehicle leapfrogs the active runner along the course, meeting every couple of miles for support or to make the exchange to the next runner. Nearly all teams finish the race in 11-17 hours, having completed a 100 mile race without each team memb er having to run the entire distance themselves. Just think of the bragging rights! |

| 5/15/2010 KEYS100--Prostate Cancer Benefit Races 100 mile and 50 mile races Key Largo or Marathon to Key West Florida Bob Becker 954-439-2800 054-206-0841 www.keys100.com bob@ultrasportsllc.com KEYS100—Prostate Cancer Benefit Race (Third annual) Course is point-to-point. The 100-mile events begin in Key Largo at 6:00 AM and the 50-miler begins at 10:00 AM in Marathon. All three races end at Smathers Beach on the Atlantic Ocean in Key West. All races, including the individual races, are designed to be self-supported, very similar to the Badwater 135 Ultra-marathon. (A number of Badwater competitors run the KEYS100 as their last big warm-up race before BW.) Beginning in 2010, individual runners will have the option to run without a personal support crew, using a drop-bag system. Most runners, however, will have crew actively supporting them along the entire route. The KEYS100 race route is a unique and beautiful venue, with the amazing vistas and colors of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Florida Bay on the other. This is a road race, about half run on sidewalks, service roads and pedestrian bridges, and the balance on the road shoulder along US#1 (“Overseas Highway”). For the 6-runner team relay race, unlike “standard” ultra-distance relays, each team decides its own race strategy—the number of legs that each team member will run and the length of each leg. All team members do NOT have to run the same number of miles or segments. Teams may change strategy during the race, and often do, as the heat becomes a factor or someone starts to bonk. This strategy element adds a lot to the race experience. Running relay races is a lot of fun and the KEYS100 format is ideal for runners who have completed a half marathon or even a 10K. In effect, each team member runs an average of 16-17 miles during the course of the day, in segments of a few miles at a time. The racer completes a leg, then gets into the team vehicle to relax and recover while the next runner takes his/her turn, and so on. The team vehicle leapfrogs the active runner along the course, meeting every couple of miles for support or to make the exchange to the next runner. Nearly all teams finish the race in 11-17 hours, having completed a 100 mile race without each person having to run the entire distance themselves. Just think of the bragging rights! Don’t forget the finish: Key West, Florida is a great place to recover from any race experience! |
