This year's course will begin at the Riverfront YMCA, 101 Locust Street, and wind around downtown Des Moines on a mostly flat, concrete-surfaced course. Participants in either the 3-mile or 5-mile road race can compete in a costume contest prior to running. For more details on the course, registration and the contests please see the attached brochure by clicking the below Additional Information link. This chilly annual event helps the Riverfront YMCA raise funds for its Partner With Youth campaign. Proceeds from Partner With Youth help the YMCA provide financial assistance to children and families who otherwise would be unable to participate in YMCA programs. Racers of all abilities will have a great time throughout the course, with obstacles and the ISF Mucky Mud Pit! The course will feature a 3 mile trek with several obstacles to pass through. At the end of the race, participants will venture through the Mucky Mud Pit to the finish. Bring towels and extra clothes as make-shift showers will be provided. FUN Run This shortened course will include a fun 1 mile run through obstacles before racers venture in the Mucky Mud Pit. This event will start at 10:30 am following the 3 mile Mud Run. The Half-Marathon and 5K runs will start at the newly built Bob Kerry Pedestrian Footbridge which traverses the river between Council Bluffs and Omaha. The route traverses the popular and scenic run/bike trails that meander through Council Bluffs. Race Highlights include Chip Timing, Finsher Medals (Half-Marathon), Tech Shirts (Half-Marathon/5K), Runner's Expo, Course entertainment and aid stations along with finish line party at Harrah's. This is the first of a series of nationwide Half-Marathons that will be held in comparable size markets in conjunction with similar municipalities. |

Participants can choose to run 4 kilometers or 4 miles. The routes are on bike paths around scenic Ada Hayden Heritage Park. With plenty of course support, the event is great for first time participants, long time athletes and family members of all ages. Pets and small children are welcomed and encouraged. Five-year age groups allow participants to receive awards as well as fantastic race shirts! Registration brochures are available at various locations in Ames: Heuss Printing, Skunk River Cycles, Bike World, Ames Racquet and Fitness Center, Ames City Hall, Emerhoff’s Footwear and other various locations.
