Race For Grace and its beneficiary foundation are named after Grace Elizabeth Ekis, a precious 5-year-old who lost her courageous 13-month battle with a rare cancerous brain tumor on Valentine’s Day 2008. Grace’s cancer was a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a tumor of the brainstem for which there is no known cure and there have been no advances in treatment options for more than 30 years. We encourage you to register prior to March 13, 2010 to ensure you will receive a race t-shirt. However, we will also accept registrants from 7:00-8:00AM on race day. Extra t-shirts will be ordered, but supplies may be limited. A line dance in Grace’s honor will be taught before the race and performed throughout the day. The race will begin promptly at 9:00AM. After the race, there will be an award ceremony, dance performances, hair donation, Chinese auction, silent auction, and food/beverages available for purchase. An awareness table and fun activities for children and families to enjoy will be featured during the day as well. The day’s events will conclude around 1:00PM. The 5k kicks off the Heart to Home Event which will include music by Steve Crowl and the Secondhand Band, a Chinese auction, pony rides, petting farm, games, pumpkin painting, face painting and lots of food. Families are encouraged to attend as either participants or to enjoy the festivities as the race is going on. Awards will be awarded in the following male and female categories, Best Overall, 15 & under, 16-25, 26-35, 36-45, 46-55, 56-65 and 65 & over.
