06/19/2010 Green Mountain Relay 200-mile team relay Jeffersonville to Bennington Vermont Timberline Events LLC http://www.greenmountainrelay.com paul@timberlineevents.com The Green Mountain Relay is a 200-mile team distance relay race adventure in Vermont designed for runners of all abilities. Scheduled the third weekend of June to take advantage of the Summer Solstice, the intimate GMR route travels north-south through the heart of Vermont and the Green Mountains, with a majority of the route following or paralleling historic Route 100. The Fifth Annual running of the Green Mountain Relay will be Saturday - Sunday, June 19th - 20th, 2010. Start your running season off with a fun and challenging adventure with 5 or 11 of your running friends on one of America's most scenic relay race routes. COURSE Route 100, which appears on many "Top 10" lists of American's most scenic roads, is a bucolic, two-lane road lined with maple trees, passing through narrow valleys, picking its way around cornfields, and traveling through small villages rather than ignoring them. Runners will experience all that is special about Vermont: country stores, sugar houses, quaint country inns, covered bridges, and revolutionary war period homes, buildings, and cemeteries. Route 100 weaves through small towns and villages, past mooing cows, crowing roosters, and the roaring waterfalls in Granville Gulf. Runners cross over seven historic covered bridges, go up and over challenging hills such as Terrible Mountain, and finish with the Bennington Memorial on the horizon. The relay begins 45 minutes from Burlington in the small town of Jeffersonville and finishes in Bennington. TEAMS There are two main divisions of teams in the Green Mountain Relay: 12-person and Ultra teams. Both divisions have competitive and non-competitive options. 12-person teams (7 - 12 runners) have six competitive categories to choose from: Men's, Women's, Mixed, Open, Master's, or Hash House Harrier (the red dress division) categories. Each person on a competitive 12-member team runs three legs of the race in rotation, with legs averaging 5.6 miles in distance. High School teams are also invited to participate and have a discounted registration fee. Ultra teams (4 - 6 runners) have three options to choose from. Ultra teams can choose the 6 x 1 option where each runner is responsible for one leg of the race averaging 33.3 miles or the 6 x 6 option where each runner is responsible for 6 legs run in rotation as the 12-person teams does. The Super Ultra option is for ultra runners who want the challenge of running the route solo or with a team of up to three runners. The Helter Skelter category is available for both 12-person and Ultra teams and is a non-competitive category. Whereas competitive teams must follow the standard relay rules of keeping the running order of their team intact, the Helter Skelter category is for teams that choose to have their runners run in any order they want. No prizes are awarded to the top teams in the Helter Skelter category. Teams start in waves from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM - a team's starting time is dependent on a team's pace.

08/28/2010 100on100 Heart of Vermont Relay 100 miles Stowe VT - Ludlow VT Vermont Robert O'Neil 802-825-1535 http://www.100on100.org robert_oneil@100on100.org The 100 on 100 Relay is a team based distance running experience. The event starts early in the morning and most participants finish between 8:30 PM-10:30 PM. The total distance is 100 miles and the course follows scenic route 100 the entire way. Our course displays all the angles Vermont has to offer from small towns and farms, to mountains and lakes. This event serves as a charity fundraiser for Vermont based youth charities that promote active and healthy lifestyles in support of self-esteem development. Now this is a course not to be missed! Your team will be running through the Heart of Vermont, and that means we designed a course specifically to provide the whole experience. Visit the runners profile for information on individual legs. Course Start: Trapp Family Lodge Course finish: Okemo Mountain Resort Trapp to Town Section: The course starts off early morning with trail running through the lush trees surrounding the Trapp Family Lodge (yes - the von Trapp Family as in The Sound of Music). Dirt roads past meadows and cows bring runners onto route 100, which will be primarily followed the rest of the course. Running along early sections of route 100 displays quaint Vermont stores and even the Ben & Jerry's factory (be sure to pick up a pint and a spoon!). Views to Forest Section: Privileged runners will pass through the first of two covered bridges in the lovely town of Waitsfield and are treated to sweeping views of field and mountain as they leave route 100 for a short jaunt. The Town of Warren holds the second covered bridge and proudly shows the character of a unique Vermont setting. Runners in the middle sections move from the fields and views into the Breadloaf Wilderness, which provides a cooling forest canyon canopy throughout the run. As runners leave this forest canyon we turn to the farming, fields and stream section of the course. Fields to Streams: As thick as the forests of Vermont can be, runners will feel the vast openness of the farming and field section. You'll feel solitude in this section but you won't be alone, as the ambling rivers that virtually cover this entire section of the course will be right at your side. Return to the Mountains: As traditional as Vermont is, the landscape is ever changing. Runners return from the fields to the mountains as we approach Killington Resort. Runners will have a first hand view of the power that the mountains of Killington can offer. From the Lake to Glory: The mountains on one side and the lakes on the other flank runners as they proceed. This graceful landscape provides the runway for the remainder of the course. Okemo Mountain provides the glorious finish at their Jackson Gore Mountain. Your heart will be racing as your team winds through the entrance to this beautiful mountain retreat. Congratulations, you've made dreams come true.

Get Adobe Flash player Event Overview WHAT IS A RELAY? This long distance relay encompasses runners “handing off” to one another multiple times throughout the day. In the 100 on 100 Relay, each team member runs and then “Hands-off” to a teammate. The team member who just finished running then waits until all team members have run before eventually they “hand-off” back to the first runner. Each runner runs (3) times throughout the day completing roughly 16.5 miles in total. WHAT IS THE 100on100 RELAY? The 100 on 100 Relay is a team based distance running experience. WHY SHOULD I DO AN EVENT LIKE THIS? Relays are a tremendous team building experience. How often do you get to spend all day with 5 of your closest running friends? Relays are very supportive environments where you’ll meet lots of people with similar interests, and these people will cheer you on the entire day. The distance is a lot more approachable than you might initially think.
