Gavin and his twin sis, Juliana, where born almost four months premature and only weighing in at just over one pound each. Their parents, Deanna and Kurt, spent nearly four months visiting the twins every day and night in the NICU before the amazing twins got to go home. The trips back to the hospital although, would still continue for the first few years. After almost losing Juliana at four weeks old, Deanna and Kurt where hoping for the best for their new babies, but knew troubles may still be heading their way with both twins having compromised immune systems. Over the next two years the twins where showing great signs of physical growth and development, however Gavin seemed to be falling behind on his speech and social skills. The family decided to go ahead and have Gavin evaluated for Autism. Deanna and Kurt were told to start learning, researching and looking at schools that are focused on kids with Autism. Receiving quotes as high as $1114 per week for a 5 day program ($57928 per year). $842 for a 3 day a week program ($43874 per year). They were able to get Gavin started at year tuition and fees of $31,200. Adam's Camp is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization created to provide a variety of intensive, personalized and integrated therapeutic programs for children with special needs and their families as well as recreational programs for youth and young adults with moderate developmental disabilities. Based in Denver, Colorado, Adam's Camp offers a variety of programs for kids with special needs from infants through young adults. The Intensive Therapy Programs and Transition Program provide team based, interdisciplinary treatment. Small groups of pediatric therapists work one-on-one with 5 children over 5 consecutive days. They focus on each child's needs and assets, providing coordinated, outcome based treatment. Families are a big part of all therapy programs. Adam's Camp offers families the support they need to understand, treat, advocate for and enjoy their child and his siblings. Adventure Camps offer youth and young adults with moderate disabilities a sleep-over camp experience - away from parents. The goal is to have fun in the mountains while learning to be independent and to enjoy social activities. The past three years have been great for Gavin. He has shown improvements in speech and social skills, but he and his family still have hills to climb. The family has made great sacrifices, but they don't regret a single one. The bonds of this family of five are some of the greatest I have seen. And still they find time to help family and friends with all the love they have shown to their two little angels.
