Saturday's Show & Shine will also feature an automotive swap meet scheduled for 9 am-3 pm. Both will be held on a large ball field, 240 North 10th Street in Elgin, with close proximity to a community park. A Poker walk will be conducted through downtown Elgin. I would like to tell you a story about an 18 years young man, a Senior student and an athlete at Milwaukie High School - Jacob VanVoorhis. Shortly after the football season ended in 2007, Jacob began to feel a pain in his leg which got so bad he eventually went the doctor and was diagnosed with Bone Cancer. Jacob has gone through chemotherapy and just recently a surgery that removed most of his femur down to his knee, and replacing it with a titanium rod to mitigate the cancer from spreading. Currently, Jacob is recuperating and waiting for some positive news. He still has another 30 weeks of intensive chemotherapy at Doernbecher Children's Hospital and will hopefully be completed in October of this year. This is not the first life challenge for Jacob, He lost his mother at the age of 7. Jacobs father, and adoptive mother Shelley are doing their very best to care for him daily. The family's insurance cap will reach its maximum allowances soon and the bills are beginning to accumulate to unbearable levels in Jacobs name, who just turned 18. Thus, a group of concerned friends, schoolmates, and community members have united and are seeking your help to Create a Break for Jake. On Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 12:00 noon until 12:00 midnight at 2146 SE Monroe St. in Milwaukie, Post 180 will sponsor an all day family event with live music, food, car club cruise-in, raffle and a silent auction.
