United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of DFW’s annual Elvis Run will offer all of these things – and the opportunity to support an organization that is committed to serving children and adults with disabilities. UCP of DFW will kickoff its 12th annual Elvis Run at Reverchon Park in Dallas at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007. The event includes a 5K run and a one-mile walk and wheelchair roll featuring Elvis’ greatest hits playing throughout the course. Participants will don sideburns and rhinestone-embellished bell bottoms in honor of “The King” – and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Elvis’ death on Aug. 16, 1977. Children will enjoy free face painting, carnival games and balloon animals. And everyone will have a howling good time participating in and watching the “Hound Dog” contest, which will feature pooches dressed as Elvis and rock ’n’ roll stars, with awards going to the “Best Elvis Look-a-Like” and the “Best Rock and Roll” hound dog. In addition, Elvis impersonators will perform their best renditions of “Big E’s” most popular songs, including “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender” and “All Shook Up.” “More than 700,000 children and adults in the Dallas area have disabilities,” said Bill Knudsen, president. “Our goal is to help them live more independently and strive for a life without limits. As our primary fundraiser, this event allows us to continue and expand vital programs and services, such as our specialized children’s preschool and therapy program and assistive technology services. The entry fee is $15 by Sept. 6. From Sept. 7 – 15, the fee is $20. Entry packets, which contain race information and a T-shirt, can be picked up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, and Friday, Sept. 14, at the Fort Worth Running Company at 3619 Byers Ave. in Fort Worth. Participants also can register on Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. The 5K run/walk will be chip-timed, and runners can pick up their chips before 7:30 a.m. on race day. Another event on Saturday will be a 1K run/walk that starts at 7:45 a.m. Children 10 years of age and younger can run/walk free in this event. The race course for both events will start and end on Packer Street between Exchange Avenue and Stockyards Boulevard in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Awards will be presented to all children participating in the 1K event. In addition, awards will go to the top male and female finisher in the 5K; the top three male and female finishers in each age group beginning with 10 years and younger to 70 years and older; and an award to the school with the most students participating. The awards ceremony will be at 9:15 a.m. in the breakfast area. There will be a free post-race breakfast following the 5K/1K event. TDA’s Food and Nutrition Division, which is sponsoring the event, administers the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch, School Breakfast, Summer and After School Snack Programs in Texas public and charter schools. All proceeds of the Turkey Trot help Sheltering Arms Senior Services continue its mission of promoting the dignity and independence of older adults through service, advocacy and support for caregivers.

Benefitting Toys for Tot's both chip timed races start and finish at Spicewood Vineyards and Winery in Spicewood, TX off of Hwy 71 about 40 mins west of Austin and 90 min north of San Antonio. They run along a challenging out and back course along scenic farm roads in Burnet County. Click here to view the course. There will be 3 fully stocked water stops along the course that will be hit twice (6 stops) each for the 1/2 Marathon and 2 water stops hit twice (4 stops) each for the 10K. Post race festivities include wine tasting, tortilla soup, chile con carne and cheese and crackers to give you a variety of food pairings. All runners receive a technical shirt and etched wine glass with race logo, and food.

The Jingle Bell Run is held annually to support the Kalin's Center The race is held on a fast and challenging course around scenic Spring Creek Country Club and lake. PRIZES: Will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each race. All children under 16 will receive finishing prize.
