(Sept. 28, 2007) – The largest field in the history of Disney's Race for the Taste 10K will have the opportunity to celebrate fitness and enjoy international cuisine at this year’s event on Oct. 7 at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando. More than 3,200 runners-roughly 500 more than last year’s event- are set to participate in the event and less than one week out the event is less than 100 runners away from capacity. The race will take place in conjunction with the 12th Annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which runs Sept. 28-Nov. 11. Athletes will enjoy a ceremonial toast to start the race. During the run, participants will be entertained by festive music and entertainment. Race for the Taste 10K will start at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex then move on to Disney-MGM Studios’ attraction, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Runners will continue along Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and finish through the World Showcase at Epcot, the center of the Food and Wine Festival. At the finish, each participant will receive a medal shaped like a chef’s hat shaped with miniature silverware dangling from it and be treated to sample tastings of culinary delight. There will be three taste stations where runners can enjoy Strawberry and Mango Fruit Salad with Cilantro from Chile, Spicy Beef Empanadas from Argentina and a Kiwi and Custard Roll from New Zealand. The first-ever event, which commemorates the 13th anniversary of famously terrifying Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction, involves a 8.1-mile road race, starting at 9 p.m. at Disney-MGM Studios Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, that winds past other thrilling landmarks such as Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, New York Street and Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat, before heading through Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and then back to Disney-MGM Studios for an eerily exciting finish at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
