The Cyprus Marathon which is held at the historic city of Pafos is renowned for being as much a social event as a running event. Hoards of runners from all over Europe annually leave the northern winters behind and gather at Pafos to enjoy the company of like-minded people and race against a varied field of competitors. The event, which will be held on Sunday 16th March 2008, incorporates three different distances: Marathon, Half Marathon and the 10 km Road Race. All participants will receive a souvenir T-shirt and a specially designed finisher’s medal. Marathon event finishers will also receive an exclusive Race Certificate. Trophies will be awarded in 50 different age group categories and for the first three teams over all in the Marathon distance. There will be many activities and a whole programme of entertainment at the race start and finish site (Pafos Mediaeval Fort square), which is suitable for the whole family. The start and finish areas for the Half Marathon & 10 km races are located at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square nearby the world famous Pafos fishing harbour. The Marathon will start from Petra tou Romiou (Birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty) and finish at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square. Runners will be transferred by buses (free of charge) to the start of the Marathon race (Petra tou Romiou) from the Pafos Mediaeval Fort near Pafos Harbour. |
| 11/23/2008 Amathunta Half Marathon & 10 km Half Marathon & 10 km Agios Tychonas, Limassol Cyprus Stavros Kakourides 00357 22370396 00357 22370396 www.spidernet.net/main/web/amathuntahalfmarathon/index.html skakour@spidernet.com.cy The international running event takes place on Sunday 23rd November 2008 and with 2 different distances (Half Marathon & 10 km Road Race) it is addressed to runners of all standards and ages. The International Amathunta Half Marathon & 10 km is sponsored from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation. The event which is co-organized from NIKI Sports Management and Agios Tychonas Community Board promises to be one of the greatest road races ever run in Cyprus. Both start and finish areas are located at the historic city kingdom of Amathus at Agios Tychonas. A fast time is expected as the course is classified as mostly flat and fast. Participants of both races will do an out and back loop along the scenic beach road of Agios Tychonas. The distance has been measured according to AIMS standards. Runners from all over Europe will gather at Agios Tychonas to enjoy the company of like-minded people and race against a varied field of competitors. The number of overseas entries will outperfor m the number of runners from Cyprus. The race is expected to attract a strong participation from UK runners who they will combine racing with a short holiday on the island. A lot of Cypriots and British Forces runners will join in both events. Everyone who finishes the Amathunta Half Marathon and 10 km Road Race will receive a specially designed, unique medal plus a commemorative Half Marathon T-shirt to celebrate their achievement. Trophies will be awarded to the first three runners in each of the 32 age group categories. Both events will start at 9:00 a.m. |
