Ripley Butte Challenge
8th annual Ripley Butte Challenge half-marathon, 10k, or 5k run or walk in Island Park, Idaho. That may seem a long way away, but if you want to accept `The Challenge,' expert running coaches say Saturday should be the first day you train for the half-marathon, if you are a beginning runner or if you have not run that distance before. Olympiad Jeff Galloway, a world- renowned runner and trainer, has an on-line 17-week half-marathon training program to prepare beginning and intermediate runners to complete a half marathon. His Web site also has training schedules for 10k and 5k events. The Web address is below. The Ripley Butte Challenge starts at 8 a. m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, and is sponsored by the Island Park Area Chamber of Commerce. It also offers one-mile kids' event.
