At the conclusion of the event participants will celebrate their success with food, beverages, music, and awards given to the climbers and highest fundraisers. Each step taken brings the American Lung Association of Minnesota one step closer to fighting lung disease. Addressing lung health issues is more critical now than ever before. Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States, behind cancer and heart disease. However, where cancer and heart disease rates are declining, mortality from lung disease is increasing. Whether it's asthma, lung cancer, emphysema, or any other lung related health issue, the American Lung Association is available to provide information, educational programs, and to fund research. All participants will be given a t-shirt, a finisher token, and will be treated to a delicious meal and prizes at the awards ceremony. On December 22, 2007, she went down for a nap and never woke up. The cause of her tragic death remains unknown to this day. Lauren was more than a year old when she passed away, so her passing is not considered Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Instead it belongs to a lesser-known category, Sudden Unexplained Death in Children (SUDC), which describes the death of healthy children between the ages of one and eleven. Since SUDC is so new, few resources exist to explore possible causes and steps for its prevention. Lauren's parents are sponsoring the first-annual Lauren's Run For a Reason, this year, a benefit for the SUDC Program to be held in memory of their daughter. The benefit will feature a 5K fun run 10:00am, and a 2K family walk 10:15am at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Registration begins at 8:30am. Cost of the event is $20 preregistered and $25 day of event. Food, drinks, t-shirts, and race bags are included in the cost of the event. This year, from June – December, the DaVita KAT Walks Across America will tour throughout the United States to build kidney disease awareness and raise funds to help reduce the advancement of Chronic Kidney Disease, a condition that affects over 26 million people nationwide. The KAT Walks are produced by DaVita, Inc., the largest independent provider of dialysis services in the United States, and benefit The Kidney TRUST, a 501(c)3 public charity that seeks to reduce the advancement of Chronic Kidney Disease by providing cost-effective rapid-screening for everyone as well as financial assistance to people affected by CKD. The event will be filled with entertainment for all ages. Bring your friends, your family, and your colleagues from work – the more, the merrier. There will be an appearance by the one and only KAT mascot, and the DaVita KAT Bounce House for kids. The KAT Walks began in 2006. Over 5,500 walkers and volunteers have participated to date. In 2008, our goal is to register nearly 15,000 participants nationwide to walk and raise funds to help fight kidney disease. |
