Additional information : Historic McKenzie River Tug. The “Ella McKenzie” is the very last wooden hulled tug built for the McKenzie Barge and Derrick Co. LTD. of North Vancouver Canada in 1951.
She has recently been repowered with a GM 671 Diesel that only has 31 hours on her from a fresh rebuild, and absolutely runs like a champ. The previous owner was in the process of converting her to pleasure use and coupled the 671 to a Borg Warner Velvet Drive gear, and updated all prop shaft bearings and cutlass housing as well as Rudder hardware. So the hardest part of a conversion has been done, the running gear is top notch!

As of the 20th. of Oct. /05 she was sold. On the 23rd. new owner had brought the tug from Tacoma to LaConner Washington, making it a two day trip to have some fun sightseeing, and reported no problems with how she ran or handled! However, he purchased the Ella McKenzie on a spur of the moment whim, without letting his wife know, before he even gets Ella to his dock, the wife says you already have two tugs we do not need a third, “either it goes or you go!” So the Ella McKenzie is up for sale again.
Anyone looking to own a great Tug conversion , that is affordable to run and easy to operate, this old gal is ready to go! Yes she still needs some work, but all the heavy duty stuff has been done. In fact, the value of her running gear conversion alone, is probably worth more than what she is selling for as a complete vessel!
